As an accredited teaching hospital since 1991, Baton Rouge General is committed to exceptional medical education through our School of Nursing, School of Radiologic Technology and our Residency programs: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Sports Medicine. Baton Rouge General is also affiliated with and serves as a satellite campus of Tulane University School of Medicine for students participating in the LEAD (Leadership, Education, Advocacy and Discovery) Academy program.
Expansion and Development
As our community grows, Baton Rouge General is continuously looking at responsible growth opportunities to meet the unique needs of our patients and physicians alike.
Bluebonnet Campus Expansion Project
Construction is underway on new state-of-the-art medical office tower and expansion of one of the existing patient medical towers on the Bluebonnet campus. Part of the hospital’s larger Bluebonnet expansion project, the new construction projects follow the recent surgical services expansion and new heart and vascular tower. Completed in fall 2012, the surgical expansion included the addition of four new operating rooms equipped with an innovative hybrid build out and minimally invasive robotics.
Located adjacent to Baton Rouge General’s Pennington Cancer Center, the medical office tower will feature 24 office suites and is expected to be completed by year end 2013.
The patient medical tower expansion will add two floors and 64 beds – increasing the total patient beds from 201 to 265 – and is expected to be completed by year end 2014.
Mid City Campus Developments
Recent program and service enhancements at the Mid City campus include the completion of the second phase of a three-phased renovation of Baton Rouge General's Regional Burn Center which involved renovation of the outpatient treatment areas. Patient rooms throughout the Mid City campus are also receiving a refresh - renovations of patient rooms are being completed in phases. Senior care also remains a focus on the Mid City campus - with the newly expanded Seniors ER and continued development of seniors programming.
