Baton Rouge General Expands Hours, Locations for Free Insurance Enrollment Help

Baton Rouge, La. – Baton Rouge General is offering members of the community free assistance with enrolling in an Affordable Care Act (ACA) health plan for the first time, or exploring their options if they already have one.

Trained navigators are available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. now through February 13 at Baton Rouge General’s Bluebonnet and Mid City campuses in the main lobby areas. The navigators have experience in ACA health plans and are available to help individuals of any age understand their options, determine eligibility and financial assistance levels, and complete and submit their applications.

Individuals must bring a valid ID and income information, such as a recent pay stub, with them. Complimentary valet parking is available at the main hospital entrances of both campuses.

In early December, Baton Rouge General began offering this free service to the community every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mid City campus. With the deadline for open enrollment quickly approaching, the hospital has expanded the hours and locations for individuals to access enrollment assistance.

Open enrollment for ACA health plans closes February 15. During this window of time, those without insurance can enroll in plans and those who already have an ACA plan can re-enroll, switch to a new one, or update their information to see if they qualify to lower their costs. If you can afford health insurance coverage in 2015, but don’t sign up, you may have to pay a penalty – $325 per adult, $162.50 per child under the age of 18, or two percent of your family income, whichever is higher.
