Volunteers Meet Their 'Match' at Baton Rouge General

Baton Rouge, La. – Sometimes love comes along when you least expect it.

Errol Brazier, 67, and Dorris Harden, 72, would have to agree. Volunteers at Baton Rouge General’s Mid City campus, the couple met on Harden’s first day, and romance blossomed quickly. A few weeks ago, the couple got engaged and are now planning a fall wedding.

Stationed at the information desk, Brazier says he noticed Harden right away. Brief exchanges became conversations and a deep friendship developed. Both were pleasantly surprised when their relationship grew more serious. “Love was the last thing on my mind when I became a hospital volunteer,” Harden said, “but I’m glad it happened. He’s a very special man.”

Brazier feels the same. “It’s so nice to have someone special in your life at this age,” he said. “I look forward to us being together … loving each other … for the rest of our lives.”

The close-knit staff at Mid City is happy for the couple, said Symil LeDoux, Director of Community Engagement. “It’s not unusual for our volunteers to develop close friendships,” she said. “But it’s really special that two people would find true love when their whole focus is on helping others. We’re excited about their future together.”
