Baton Rouge General School of Radiologic Technology
The goal of the General’s School of Radiologic Technology is to offer the students the preparation necessary to become a skilled radiographer. This technological education program prepares students to provide patient service using imaging systems and equipment, directed by physicians who are qualified to order and/or perform radiologic procedures. Direct access to the technological resources and state-of-the-art equipment of the Baton Rouge General Medical Center gives students first-hand experience in utilizing the most advanced and appropriate diagnostic equipment available.
The General’s School of Radiologic Technology was approved by the State of Louisiana Department of Education in the spring of 1981 and accepted its first class of seven students that year, beginning a long-running history of success in the training of supportive healthcare service professionals in our community. The school became accredited by the Committee on Allied Health & Accreditation (CAHEA) and the Joint Review Committee on Education for Radiologic Technicians (JRCERT) in the spring of 1982.
In 1985, with the establishment of a state licensure program for radiologic technologists, the School applied for and gained approval from the Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners, as mandated by law. The School currently maintains accreditation from all relevant national, state and local authorities and accreditation agencies.
Since 1981, the School has accepted more than 150 additional students and for the last eight years boasts a 100% success rate by its graduates for passing the American Registry for Radiologic Technicians (ARRT) testing on their first attempt.
