Resources for Clinicians

We know you're working hard to provide the highest level of care for your patients, and with 40 years’ experience in treating burn patients, we’re here to offer support services to you and your staff.

Baton Rouge General's Burn Center’s comprehensive burn care program consisting of an acute adult unit, an acute pediatric unit and an outpatient burn clinic. Led by experienced burn surgeons, our interdisciplinary care teams are made up of highly trained specialty nurses, dietitians, respiratory therapists, rehabilitation therapists and social workers.

We know your community looks to you to provide emergency burn care, and because of this, you're a vital part of our healthcare network. You are often the first point-of-care for your community and we want to do what we can to ensure your team is well-versed in the latest procedures in burn stabilization and treatment. Please post this Emergency Burn Care Poster in your ER and encourage your staff to become familiar with these treatment guidelines. If you would like a complimentary, full-size poster, we're happy to send you one.

While burns are not likely your most common cases, they are often severe and require specialized treatment. If you are interested in having our burn care team come out to your facility to do on-site training for your staff regarding stabilization for all types of burn injuries (flame, scald, electrical, chemical, hot substances, radiation, etc.), please email us at Burn@brgeneral.org or call (225) 387-7717. We are committed to providing the best burn care for our community and yours. If there is anything we can do to help you and your staff better serve your patients, please don't hesitate to contact us.

TRANSFERRING & REFERRING PATIENTS TO THE GENERAL'S BURN CENTER

To best serve you and your patients, we encourage you and your staff to become familiar with our Transfer/Refer Request Form as it will help us better communicate and work together in providing optimal outcomes for your patients when the need arises.

When you have a patient that requires treatment by the General's Inpatient or Outpatient Burn Center, please call us at (225) 387-7717. We will review the Transfer/Refer Request Form over the phone and help you properly assess your patient's case to determine whether your patient should be transferred for inpatient care or if they would be best served through our Outpatient Burn Clinic.

For the safety and convenience of your patients, you must confirm referral acceptance by phone with us before transferring any burn patients (inpatient or outpatient).

If we recommend your patient be treated through our Outpatient Burn Clinic, we will ask you to print this Outpatient Referral Instruction Sheet to give to them.

**PLEASE NOTE**

For the safety and convenience of your patients, you must confirm referral acceptance with us before referring or transferring any burn patients (inpatient or outpatient).
