In 1958, Baton Rouge General performed the first open-heart surgery in the Gulf South, setting the stage for our long commitment to premier cardiovascular care. Over the years, Baton Rouge General's Womack Heart Center has continued to uphold this pledge by being the first hospital in:

• the region to open a heart catheterization lab
