Interpreting Services Louisiana is home to more than 9,500 deaf individuals, with an additional one-third of American adults with hearing loss in one or both ears. For patients who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, Baton Rouge General offers the use of NexTalk, which allows patients to connect to an online sign-language interpreter in real-time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In emergency situations, every second matters. One of the primary benefits to this on-demand technology is the immediate access that can't be found with more traditional interpreting services. NexTalk also provides our patients with the ability to call family and friends with the assistance of video or text relay service - letting you access your loved ones at all times. The General is the first hospital in the region with this technology and it is available at both our Mid City and Bluebonnet hospitals, including both Emergency Departments. If you have any questions and for more information about NexTalk services at Baton Rouge General, please call (225) 387-7632.
