Step 3: Attend mandatory orientation

2014 Spring Program Timeline:

December 20, 2013:          Application and attachments must be received at Volunteer Services 
December 27, 2013:    Students will be notified of selections and positions assigned 
January 6, 2014:     Students may begin first step TB skin test process 
January 13, 2014:       Students must begin first, or take second step TB skin test (if taken first on 1/7) 
January 20, 2014:     Students must complete second step TB skin test process this week 
January 28, 2014:     Mandatory orientation - Bluebonnet (Conference Rooms 1 & 2) from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m
February 3, 2014:       Students begin volunteering this week. Must complete 25 hours by 4/26/13. 


Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled high school student
  • Must be between 16 – 18 years old
  • Have a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Provide one professional letter of reference (teacher, supervisor, guidance counselor)
  • Submit a 100 word essay “Why I Want to Volunteer at Baton Rouge General Hospital”
  • Obtain permission from parents/guardians and school principal
  • Attire to be worn at all times within the hospital: Khaki pants, closed toe shoes, white button down or polo shirt tucked in and belted pants.  Hospital badge provided by Volunteer Services.
  • Commit to 25 hours for semester
  • Take a 2-step TB skin test
  • Attend a mandatory orientation

June 2 - 6, 2014:     Mandatory orientation - Please choose one of the following dates to attend:
    June 2: Bluebonnet (Conference Rooms 1 & 2) from 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
June 3: Bluebonnet (Conference Rooms 1 & 2) from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.
June 4: Mid City (Conference Room 1) from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.
June 9, 2014:   Students begin volunteering this week. Must complete 25 hours by August 1

Summer High School Student Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled high school student
  • Must be between 14 – 18 years old
  • Must have a 2.8 GPA or higher
  • Ability to work a four-hour shift once a week for a total of 25 hours within the 8-week program
  • Strong customer service skills, attention to detail and timeliness
  • Attire to be worn at all times within the hospital: Khaki pants, closed toe shoes, white button down or polo shirt tucked in and belted pants.  Hospital badge provided by Volunteer Services.
  • 2 step TB test completed before orientation date
  • Completed application with appropriate signatures
  • Attend or complete orientation process before volunteer shift is assigned
