Bio

Dr. John Wood is a native of Louisiana. As a young child, he and his family lived in England then moved to Covington, Louisiana. While there, he was treated for leukemia, and afterward, his family relocated to the Baton Rouge area. He returned to athletics and other typical activities of adolescence until he relapsed with leukemia in high school. He was unable to regularly attend classes, so he enrolled in the LSU Early Admissions Program. Following completion of chemotherapy, he transferred to the University of Virginia where he completed his undergraduate degree in biology. He then worked in cancer biology and studied at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. He obtained his doctorate of medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine then completed his residency training at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami School of Medicine. He has extensive surgical experience in all areas of otolaryngology but particular expertise in the treatment of thyroid and parathyroid disease. Dr. Wood is married to Kelly Heroman Wood, also a native of Louisiana, and has two children, Lucy Bea and John Isaac. He loves everything outdoors and playing with his dogs Pippi and Benny.
