Who Inspires You?

Baton Rouge General recognizes the people who inspire us

Baton Rouge, La. –Do you know someone who has impressed you with their courage, compassion, or positive outlook? Whether it’s a family member who has battled cancer or a friend who lives a healthy lifestyle, this October Baton Rouge General (BRG) is recognizing those who inspire us.

“We don’t often take the time to acknowledge and thank the people who inspire us every day,” said BRG President and CEO Mark Slyter. “October is the perfect time to recognize those around us for their strength and commitment to health.”

While October traditionally focuses on breast cancer awareness, BRG’s “Inspire” campaign focuses on all types of cancer, in addition to overall health and wellness. Awareness about health and wellness is especially important in Louisiana, where we have one of the highest cancer mortality rates in the nation, and some of the highest rates of obesity and chronic disease.

BRG will accept inspire submissions online and at physician offices throughout the month of October. Since launching October 1, many people have already shared their sources of inspiration:

“At only 38, Wendy Landry found out she had eye cancer. It took months of treatment and stress, but she was positive and optimistic throughout the process, sharing photos of cool eye patches and planning trips around her treatment in Memphis. Fortunately, her treatment was successful and she's back to her healthy, normal life. But, her cheerful attitude serves as an inspiration to anyone facing a difficult time.”

“My oldest sister Joann Scott of Chicago, Ill. She is 64 years old and she runs 5 miles, go to yoga classes at least 3 times a week, run up and down some stairs , is in weight lifting class, and is a school teacher. I always call her for advice about eating healthy, what do I do for this or that, She is awesome!”

Submissions will also be transferred to yard signs displayed at both hospital campuses. Alternatively, paper ribbons can be completed at a Baton Rouge General Physician office or hospital campus. Review online postings at #myInspireRibbon.
