Why Get a Mammogram

  • It can save your life. Nearly 268,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Having a mammogram can detect cancer early.

  • Early detection is key. A mammogram can detect cancer at early stages even before you can feel a lump – when cancer is most treatable.

  • Minimal discomfort. A mammogram is a fast procedure and discomfort is minimal for most women.

  • It doesn’t take much time. Mammograms are quick, only taking about 20 minutes.

  • Be a role model. Encourage women in your life to get their annual mammogram by having yours.

How to Prepare for Your Mammogram

  • If your breasts are usually tender the week before your period, the best time to schedule your mammogram is one week following your cycle.
  • Describe any breast symptoms or problems to the clinician who is performing the exam.
  • You’ll have to undress above the waist to get a mammogram. We will provide you with a cover to wear.
  • The whole procedure takes about 20 minutes but the breast compression only lasts a few seconds.
