4 Healthy Habits to Pass Along to Your Children
We all want the very best for our children, and good health tops the list.
Childhood obesity is one of the country’s leading public health
problems because it can lead to heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, social
discrimination, poor self-esteem, asthma and more. Now’s the time
to teach your child healthy habits that can last a lifetime!
- Be active - every day. Go for a bike ride or to a nearby park. Encourage
a game of tag, kickball or hide-and-go-seek – play with them, mom and dad!
- Set limits on screen time. Spending too much time in front of the TV, surfing
the internet or watching YouTube videos is unhealthy. Limit screen time
to 1 to 2 hours a day for children over age 2.
- Be a good (not perfect) role model for healthy eating. Eat meals and snacks
together as a family as often as possible, sitting down, with the TV off.
Involve your kids in healthy meal planning and grocery shopping.
- Sleep. Most kids need 10 to 11 hours of sleep every night. Create a bedtime
routine that works for your child and stick to it so they (and you!) get
a good night’s rest.
