Vincent-ShawVincent Shaw, Jr., MD, CAQSM, FAAFP

Family and Sports Medicine Physician, Program Director

Dr. Shaw, A native of Opelousas, received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Southern University A&M College and his Medical Degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his Family Medicine Residency training at the Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program, and also completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He has been a faculty member for the Family Medicine Residency Program for 13 years and currently serves as the Program Director for Baton Rouge General’s Family Medicine Residency and Sports Medicine Fellowship Programs. Board Certified in Family Medicine with a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine, Dr. Shaw also serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve and is a team physician for Southern University and LSU.


Robert ChasukRobert Chasuk, MD, FAAFP, CFCMC

Family Physician; Associate Program Director

Dr. Chasuk, a California native, is a graduate of the University of California at San Diego Medical School and the Family Practice Residency at State University of New York, Stony Brook. He practiced for several years with the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans where he was an active member of their residency faculty. Dr. Chasuk currently serves as Associate Program Director for the Family Medicine Residency Program and Graduate Medical Education at Baton Rouge General. He has been a member of the Family Medicine Residency Program faculty since 1994, and served as Program Director from June 2006 until May 2009. He heads the development of learning resources within the program and his interests include evidence based medicine and the treatment of infertility and gynecologic problems using the Creighton Fertility Care System. He and his wife, Patti, have four boys and one daughter.


Matthew-BumgardnerMatthew Bumgardner, MD, CAQSM

Family & Sports Medicine Physician

Dr. Matthew Bumgardner earned his undergraduate degree from Centenary College of Louisiana and his medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. He completed his residency training at Baton Rouge General’s Family Medicine Program, where he served as chief resident, as well as a fellowship in Baton Rouge General’s Sports Medicine Program. He is also a team physician for Louisiana State University and a member of the American Medical Association, American Medical Society of Sports Medicine, American Academy of Family Physicians, and Louisiana Association of Family Physicians.


Uyen-CaroUyen Caro, MD

Family Physician

Uyen Caro, MD, earned her Doctor of Medicine from St. George's University School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies. She completed her residency at Baton Rouge General. Dr. Caro is board certified in Family Medicine.


Wayne-GravoisWayne Gravois, MD, ABFP

Family Physician

A Louisiana native, Wayne Gravois, MD, ABFP, attended LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at Earl K. Long Hospital in Baton Rouge and is board certified in Family Medicine. He practiced for 28 years at Zachary Family Practice in Zachary, Louisiana before joining the residency program in 2012. Dr. Gravois served as president of the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians (LAFP) in 2000 and continues to serve on the LAFP Foundation and legislative committees. He has been very active in anti-tobacco campaigns and education. In 2009, the LSU Health Sciences Center voted him AOA Preceptor of the year. Dr. Gravois is married and has one daughter and son-in-law.


Rachael-KermisRachel Kermis, MD

Behavioral Science Faculty & Family Physician

Dr. Rachael Kermis received her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica. She completed her residency training at Baton Rouge General’s Family Medicine Residency Program, where she served as chief resident. Dr. Kermis is board certified in Family Medicine. A transplant from New York, Dr. Kermis loves her new Louisiana home and looks forward to building strong relationships with her patients and providing open-minded, welcoming care to multiple generations. She is an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians (LAFP), including serving on LAFP’s Board of Directors.


Desi-ValentineDesi Valentine, MD

Family Physician

Dr. Desi Valentine earned her medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, completed her residency training at Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program and is board certified in Family Medicine. She is also a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians.


James-WaddilJames Waddill, MD, FAAFP

Family Physician

Dr. James Waddill is a native of St. Joseph, LA. He graduated magna cum laude from Louisiana Tech University with a degree in Zoology. He received his doctorate degree from LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport. He completed an internship and residency in Family Medicine at E. A. Conway Memorial Hospital in Monroe, Louisiana, and was appointed Chief Hospital Resident during his final year of residency. He has been board certified in Family Medicine since 1986 and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.


Kaycee-WeaverKaycee Weaver, MD

Family and Geriatric Physician

Dr. Kaycee Weaver earned her Doctor of Medicine from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, West Indies. Dr. Weaver completed her residency at Corpus Christi Family Medicine in Corpus Christi, Texas. She completed a Geriatric Fellowship at Corpus Christi Family Medicine in Corpus Christi, TX. Dr. Weaver is Board Certified in Family Medicine.
