Living in Baton Rouge

The state capital of Louisiana, Baton Rouge offers abundant options for shopping, dining, and family-friendly entertainment along the banks of the Mississippi River. With a strong sense of community and a rich culture, it’s no wonder our residents love to call Baton Rouge home.

From Cajun to Creole, the Capital City has a diverse selection of unique cuisine. It also offers a thriving art and music scene with regularly scheduled live performances, independent movie showings and comedy shows at the Manship Theatre. Local artists are regularly featured in gallery shows and events, such as Art Melt.

The city has many opportunities to get involved through volunteer organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and professional medical organizations such as the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians. It is home to two major state universities – Louisiana State University and Southern University. You’ll enjoy strolling through the majestic oak trees that decorate these campuses or taking a jog or bike ride around the beautiful lakes that surround the LSU campus.

Baton Rouge is convenient to many nearby getaways. New Orleans is just an hour away and offers world-class dining and shopping. The Big Easy is also home to the Audubon Zoo, WWII Museum, historic French Quarter, and national football and basketball teams the Saints and the Pelicans. Located four hours from Baton Rouge, Houston has an abundance of shopping, food and fun activities for all ages, including museums, amusement parks, the renowned Minute Maid Park and the Houston Zoo.
