Mammography

Mammography, a high-resolution x-ray of the breast, can detect cancer long before you notice symptoms. Annual mammograms are recommended for women 40 and older, and for younger women who have a known increased risk of breast cancer.

Schedule a Mammogram

We offer both 2D and 3D mammography:

  • 2D - Two X-ray images are taken, one from the top, and a second from the side.
  • 3D - Multiple images of the breast are taken in seconds, using low x-ray energy, decreasing radiation exposure to below FDA guidelines and allowing your doctor to examine your breast tissue one layer at a time.

Because the 3D mammogram sorts through the confusion of overlapping breast tissues and does not identify normal tissue as abnormal, it has been proven to reduce your chance of getting called back for a more detailed exam by up to 40%. In addition, this type of exam detects cancers earlier and at a higher rate than 2D mammography alone.

2D mammograms are available at the following locations:

  • Baton Rouge General Imaging & Radiology Center - O'Neal
  • Baton Rouge General - Mid City, Imaging & Radiology
  • Baton Rouge General - Bluebonnet, Women's Center

3D mammograms are available at the following locations:

  • Baton Rouge General - Ascension, Imaging & Radiology
  • Baton Rouge General - Bluebonnet, Women's Center
  • Baton Rouge General - Mid City, Imaging & Radiology

We are now offering Saturday mammograms from 8 a.m. - Noon at Baton Rouge General - Ascension.
