The Power of Touch
Becoming a parent is one of the most wonderful things you will ever experience.
And bonding with your new baby is crucial to establishing a lifelong,
healthy and loving relationship. Aside from holding, rocking and talking
to your baby, a new bonding option has emerged ---
Baton Rouge General offers a new family-centered program that teaches parents
and caregivers how to massage infants and young children, providing positive
interaction and long-term physical benefits. With techniques such as rubbing,
kneading, pressing and rolling a baby’s soft tissues, infant massage can:
- Calm a fussy baby
- Promote blood circulation
- Relax the muscles
- Relieve pain
- Aid in digestion
- Manage colic symptoms
- Provide visual interaction
- Promote bonding
At Baton Rouge General, infant massage techniques are taught by our
Certified Infant Massage Instructors who have completed a special program and have earned their certification
through the International Loving Touch Foundation. Classes are taught
through the hospital’s Pediatric Rehabilitation Department and the
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
