Staying well-hydrated has a ton of benefits for your body, including better digestion, overall skin health, circulation and more. But drinking the right amount of fluids every day can seem like a daunting task. The Institute of Medicine recommends 2.7 liters (91 ounces) for women and 3.7 (125 ounces) liters for men, but that can vary for a lot of reasons, like how much you exercise, medications you take, and certain conditions.
Once you’ve figured out what your personal fluid intake should be, use a few of these hydration hacks to help you reach your goal:
- Eat your water. Foods like watermelon, cucumbers, strawberries, tomatoes, cantaloupe and celery contain 90% or more water content and that counts toward your intake goal.
- Drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up in the morning.
- Try fruit infused water if the regular stuff is too bland or boring.
- Keep an extra water bottle in places like your car, desk, night stand, and gym bag.
- There’s an app for that – search ‘water tracker’ and find one that helps keep you motivated.
There are even special water bottles that light up to remind you when it’s time to drink, if that’s your thing.
