Like the rest of the country, Baton Rouge General is heartbroken by the division and injustice that continues across the country. Our community’s unified response to COVID-19 has highlighted how much good can occur when we all come together with compassion and care. However, the tragic death of George Floyd reminds us that despite our progress, we have a long way to go to achieve the equality so many have fought for.
BRG’s commitment to diversity and inclusion remains a core part of who we are and how we operate. Our 3,500 team members are proud to care for all of our patients regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or economic background. There is no room for racism, discrimination and violence in our organization and in our community.
At BRG, we created a Diversity and Inclusion Council that will help us address challenges, identify priorities and take action to lead us forward. We encourage our team members, our patients and our community to also work together as a positive force for change. Listen with empathy to the voices of those who hurt and grieve. Question your biases. Speak up when you see or experience injustice. Embrace inclusion, tolerance and non-violence. Then, as Dr. King said, we may “live out the true meaning of our creed” that we are all created equal.
