Heart Survivor Story - Latrice Isiadinso

Latrice was on top of her health. When she felt a lump in her breast, she sought medical attention. But what started as a breast cancer surgery, turned into a second life-changing moment.

Latrice was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024. Her primary care physician, Dr. Vincent Shaw, recommended she keep it in the Baton Rouge General family and see Dr. Everett Bonner for her breast surgery.

After a successful breast surgery, Latrice was in her recovery room. The last thing she remembers is the nurse handing her some water and then waking up to her screaming, “Latrice, Latrice!”

She had experienced a heart attack, right there in recovery.

Latrice was immediately rushed back in the operating room for heart surgery. She credits God's timing for putting her heart surgeon on the Bluebonnet campus at that exact moment. Not only was he not supposed to be there that day, but he had also just wrapped another surgery, was in the operating room and able to save Latrice’s life.

Latrice had 100% blockage in her artery. The doctors don’t know how she was even walking around. Today, Latrice is happier and healthier than ever – both as a cancer survivor and heart attack survivor.

She knows she could have had her surgery elsewhere but feels so lucky to have chosen Baton Rouge General.
