Baton Rouge General Earns Five-Star Ratings for Heart Failure and Stroke from Healthgrades

25-Oct-2013

Baton Rouge, La. – Baton Rouge General was recognized as a five-star recipient for treatment of heart failure and stroke in 2014 by Healthgrades, an independent, nationally-recognized healthcare rating service, in this week’s release of Healthgrades report on national hospital quality outcomes. The report highlights how well 4,500 hospitals nationwide performed for 31 of the most common inpatient conditions and procedures, such as stroke and heart attack. Recognizing the top-performing hospitals based on quality performance and outcomes for patients, Healthgrades’ report on hospital quality helps consumers make informed healthcare decisions. Baton Rouge General was also a five-star recipient for treatment of sepsis in 2014 and treatment of respiratory failure for 10 years in a row (2005-2014).

“This recognition by Healthgrades is a reflection of the steadfast commitment of our heart and vascular team, as well as every Baton Rouge General team member, to the highest standards for clinical quality and safety for our patients,” said Evelyn Hayes, MD, Interim President and CEO, Baton Rouge General. “In every aspect of patient care, Baton Rouge General is raising the bar when it comes to implementing the most highly reliable best practices to provide the safest, quality care – demonstrated by this most recent honor as well as receiving Baton Rouge’s only Joint Commission ‘Top Performer’ hospital rating.”

Healthgrades ratings are different from other types of quality analyses in that they use objective data to evaluate hospitals solely on clinical outcomes. Specifically, Healthgrades rates hospitals based on their performance on risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications for 31 of the most common conditions and procedures.
