General Health System President/CEO Bill Holman Announces Retirement

26-Feb-2013 Baton Rouge, La. - Bill Holman, President and CEO of General Health System, announced today his retirement from General Health System after 12 years of service with the organization.  Holman, age 66, served more than 12 years with the organization and a total of 48 years in the healthcare industry. General Health System’s national search for his replacement, to include internal candidates, is underway.{anchor: _GoBack}  The health system’s Board of Trustees has named Dr. Evelyn Hayes interim President and CEO effective immediately to serve during the transition period.

“Today, I am proud to say that Baton Rouge General is a thriving, sound organization, and I am truly excited about working with a nationally recognized, award-winning management team, recognized by HealthLeaders as the “Top Leadership Team in the Nation” in 2004.  Our hospital and health system is well poised for continued, mission-driven innovation, growth and expansion, and our focus remains on meeting the unique needs of our community with a firm commitment to the highest of patient care, quality and safety standards,” stated Hayes, Baton Rouge General Interim President and CEO.

Baton Rouge General’s successes include recognition as Baton Rouge’s only 2012 Top Performer hospital by the Joint Commission for Heart Failure, Heart Attack, Surgical Care and Pneumonia; and in 2012, the Leapfrog Group named Baton Rouge General as the city’s only “A”-rated hospital.  Additionally, the hospital has received numerous accreditations, awards and recognition for clinical excellence in oncology, cardiovascular, obstetrics, critical care, burn care, surgery and radiology. The General has also developed vital programs and services, namely through the region’s first Seniors ER, its Pennington Cancer Center, Womack Heart Center, and other multimillion dollar facility expansions for surgical and outpatient care.

Baton Rouge General has been named Louisiana State Nurse’s Association’s Hospital of the Year five times, HHN’s Most Wired hospital for information technology (IT) innovation, and received the Excellence in Diversity award from the Greater Baton Rouge Society for Human Resource Management.

Demonstrating the organization’s commitment to cultivating Louisiana’s future clinical leaders, Holman led efforts to establish Baton Rouge’s General’s prestigious affiliation with Tulane University School of Medicine.  Housed at Baton Rouge General’s Mid City campus, TUSOM’s flagship satellite campus is expected to grow to serve more than 160 medical students each year, making it one of the largest medical school satellite campuses in the U.S.  Serving as the hub of medical education initiatives, the General’s Mid City campus also includes Family Medicine and Internal Medicine residency programs, a Sports Medicine fellowship program, Schools of Nursing and Radiation Technology, and a PharmD program affiliated with ULM.

“I leave Baton Rouge General and General Health System with a great deal of pride in what we have accomplished.  We have a Board committed to fulfilling our mission, a dedicated medical staff, and employees who are passionate, loyal and very caring,” said Holman.
