VINCENT SHAW, JR., MD, CAQSM, FAAFP

Family and Sports Medicine Physician, Program Director

Dr. Shaw, A native of Opelousas, received his Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from Southern University A&M College and his Medical Degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his Family Medicine Residency training at the Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program, and also completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He has been a faculty member for the Family Medicine Residency Program for 10 years and currently serves as the Program Director for Baton Rouge General’s Family Medicine Residency and Sports Medicine Fellowship Programs. Board Certified in Family Medicine with a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine, Dr. Shaw also serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve and is a team physician for Southern University and LSU.


ROBERT CHASUK, MD, FAAFP, CFCMC

Family Physician; Associate Program Director

Dr. Chasuk, a California native, is a graduate of the University of California at San Diego Medical School and the Family Practice Residency at State University of New York, Stony Brook. He practiced for several years with the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans where he was an active member of their residency faculty. Dr. Chasuk currently serves as Associate Program Director for the Family Medicine Residency Program and Graduate Medical Education at Baton Rouge General. He has been a member of the Family Medicine Residency Program faculty since 1994, and served as Program Director from June 2006 until May 2009. He heads the development of learning resources within the program and his interests include evidence based medicine and the treatment of infertility and gynecologic problems using the Creighton Fertility Care System. He and his wife, Patti, have four boys and one daughter.


JENNIFER BURCH, LCSW-BACS

Behavioral Science Faculty

Jennifer Burch is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Board Approved Clinical Supervisor. She participated in the Title IV-E Child Welfare Training Program while obtaining her Bachelor of Social Work degree and has substantial training in foster care, adoption services, child welfare laws, and family preservation. Jennifer received a Master of Social Work degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where she interned at the Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center. She has over sixteen years of experience as a social worker in Baton Rouge in practice areas including administration, consultation, and direct practice. She served as a board member for the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and the National Association of Social Workers. Jennifer's primary areas of interest include advocacy, healthy aging, evidence-based practice, and interventions with high-risk populations.


UYEN CARO, MD

Family Physician

Uyen Caro, MD, earned her Doctor of Medicine from St. George's University School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies. She completed her residency at Baton Rouge General. Dr. Caro is board certified in Family Medicine.


WAYNE GRAVOIS, MD, ABFP

Family Physician

A Louisiana native, Wayne Gravois, MD, ABFP, attended LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at Earl K. Long Hospital in Baton Rouge and is board certified in Family Medicine. He practiced for 28 years at Zachary Family Practice in Zachary, Louisiana before joining the residency program in 2012. Dr. Gravois served as president of the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians (LAFP) in 2000 and continues to serve on the LAFP Foundation and legislative committees. He has been very active in anti-tobacco campaigns and education. In 2009, the LSU Health Sciences Center voted him AOA Preceptor of the year. Dr. Gravois is married and has one daughter and son-in-law.


BYRON JASPER, MD, MPH, AAHIVS

Family Physician, HIV & Hepatitis C Specialist

Originally from Houma, LA, Dr. Byron Jasper is a proud alumnus of Xavier University of Louisiana. He received his medical degree from Tulane School of Medicine and his master’s degree from Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He completed his family medicine residency at Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program and followed this by completing two fellowships in Community Health Leadership Development at Georgetown University and HIV and Hepatitis C in Primary Care at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C. Dr. Jasper is the Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee and also serves as our Lead Faculty for Curriculum and Educational Development and as the Founder and Executive Director of Comprehensive Medical Mentoring Program, which was created to provide minority students with experiences that foster successful matriculation into health-professional schools. Dr. Jasper is board certified in Family Medicine, an American Academy of HIV Specialist, and a member of AAFP, LAFP, and STFM.


DESI VALENTINE, MD

Family Physician

Dr. Desi Valentine earned her medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, completed her residency training at Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program and is board certified in Family Medicine. She is also a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians.


KAYCEE WEAVER, MD

Family and Geriatric Physician

Kaycee Weaver, MD, earned her Doctor of Medicine from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, West Indies. Dr. Weaver completed her residency at Corpus Christi Family Medicine in Corpus Christi, Texas. She completed a Geriatric Fellowship at Corpus Christi Family Medicine in Corpus Christi, TX. Dr. Weaver is Board Certified in Family Medicine.
