Primary Care Services

When you have a healthcare need a primary care physician should be your first stop. Primary care doctors can handle a wide range of medical problems like the basic cold or flu to chronic disease management such as diabetes and asthma. They can also help with prevention including wellness checkups and immunizations. Think of your primary care doctor as the center of a wheel – they will help manage your daily healthcare needs and will coordinate with specialists if you need further care.

At Baton Rouge General, our primary care doctors are board certified in Family Medicine and Internal Medicine. The biggest difference in selecting which type of primary care doctor to see has to do with age. Family medicine physicians treat children and adults while internal medicine doctors (or internists) care for adults over the age of 18.
