As the area's first Regional Burn Center with more than 40 years of experience, we often receive inquiries about whether a patient is appropriate for transfer or if proper care measures are being followed.

To better assist in this process and cut unnecessary time and costs involved, we have implemented a new process that allows hospitals to send us images of patients. By seeing the patient in a picture, we can help you make better assessments on whether the patient is appropriate for transfer.

Recommended files for upload include: jpg, tif and pdf

We have three simple methods of sending photos:

Online

Photos may be uploaded by using the form below in a secure fashion through the webpage's encryption. This is the preferred method for sharing protected health information (PHI) as defined under HIPAA guidelines. If you have a patient with facial burns, we strongly encourage you to utilize this upload method, since it is the most secure.

Secure Email

If your hospital has email encryption tools available you may send a secured email. This is another way to share PHI or full face photos in a secure fashion. Check with your hospital privacy officer or technology department on availability of email encryption tools.

For ADULT BURNS (patients 15 and older) email: Burn@brgeneral.org. Please follow up the email or upload with a call to (225) 387-7717 to discuss the patient's care or call us with any questions about the photo referral process.

For PEDIATRIC BURNS
(patients 14 and younger) email: PediatricBurn@brgeneral.org. Please follow up the email or upload with a call to (225) 763-4533 to discuss the patient's care or call us with any questions about the photo referral process.

Unsecure Email

If no encryption tools are readily available, an unsecured email can be sent, but steps should be taken to protect privacy. Do not include any identifiable patient information such as name, social security number, account/record numbers or date of birth. Pertinent clinical information can be shared as long as it is not directly identifiable to the patient. When referring facial injuries, take care to minimize the amount of the face shown in photos if at all possible. To best protect the information, it is recommended to delete the email from your sent mail folder and empty the email from the trash folder to prevent accidental retention.
