Spring has sprung and flowers aren't the only thing popping up. Seasonal allergies, or hay fever, normally make a comeback this time of year. Itchy eyes, nose, throat or ears, sneezing, congestion and runny nose are all symptoms of exposure to allergens such as pollen and mold. And they can make enjoying the outdoors not so enjoyable. Keep your allergies under control with these seven tips that will help reduce triggers.

  1. Mowing the lawn and gardening stir up allergens. Wear a dust mask if you can’t skip these honey-dos.

  2. Avoid going outside during times when pollen and mold levels are high. The best time to go out is after a good rain.

  3. Allergy medications work best when taken before the pollen season or your symptoms begin.

  4. Remove clothes you've worn outside and don't hang clean laundry outside — pollen can stick to sheets and towels.

  5. Keep indoor air dry with a dehumidifier.

  6. Use a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter in your air-conditioner.

  7. Clean floors often with a vacuum cleaner that has a HEPA filter.

Remember to see your physician regularly and if your allergy symptoms persist or last for many months, check with your doctor to explore treatment options.
