BATON ROUGE, La. – This year’s baby name trends at Baton Rouge General’s Birth Center include not only the top 5 list but a look at other fun facts about the hospital's tiniest patients. For example, 77% of babies have a first name that no other baby born here this year shares, making a unique name its own trend, and 18% of babies were born on a Friday, making it the most common birth day.
Here is a look at other naming trends:
• Family naming traditions still going strong: 9% of babies were Jr., Sr., III, IV, etc.
• From tradition to creativity: 9% of babies had creative name spelling
• Apostrophes are common: 9% of all baby names contained an apostrophe (but hyphenated first names are not – only one baby in 2025)
• Biblical names are strong: 8% of boys had clear biblical names
• Flowery names: 8% of girls had a flower name
• Middle names: 1 in 17 babies had more than one middle name
• Very into vowels: 60% of girl names end in a vowel
• 80s girl names seeing a comeback, and unisex names are rising: not a major trend, but a sprinkling of them
