BATON ROUGE, La. – Baton Rouge General (BRG) is hosting a free family event at its Mid City campus on Tuesday, Aug. 5 from 4-6 p.m. “Ready, Set, School!” is designed to help families check off the often-overlooked items that can make a big difference in comfort, safety, and confidence on day one. BRG’s team will be on hand for:
• Backpack Fit Checks – Is it too heavy? Is it sitting right? Our pediatric physical and occupational therapists will check!
• Shoe Fit Checks – Did you know buying up in size to grow into shoes can cause more harm than good? Make sure new school shoes have both the fashion and function.
• Food Finds – Our registered dietitians are bringing fresh ideas for healthy lunches and after-school snacks that kids will actually enjoy.
• Home Alone Safety – The Mid City ER team has practical ways to prevent household accidents and keep your crew out of harm’s way.
• Mental Health Resources -- Chat with licensed counselors from Wellness Studio about resources for kids and teens.
Families can also take advantage of:
• Easy tips to keep healthy all year long like immunizations needed for school
• Chance to win prizes including a laptop
• BRG’s Mobile Health Unit
• East Baton Rouge Parish Library’s Book Mobile
BRG’s school partners – Park Medical Academy, Capitol Elementary and Capitol High – will also be there to help support local families as they get ready for the first day of school on August 7.
