Warning Signs of a Heart Attack

Certain lifestyle habits can increase your risk of heart attack ... being overweight, family history, or having high cholesterol and blood pressure, for example.

If you or someone you know has cardiovascular disease, it’s important to educate yourself on the signs and symptoms of a heart attack. And remember – heart attacks don’t always happen suddenly. Some patients feel mild symptoms for days in advance.




Symptoms vary from person to person, and warning signs are not always the same for men and women. Don’t take chances, especially during the holidays when hospitals see an increase in heart attacks and strokes.

If you suspect someone might be having a heart attack, consult a physician immediately. Here are some common warning signs:

• Chest pain, discomfort or fullness
• Difficulty breathing
• Shortness of breath
• Profuse sweating
• Feelings of heartburn or indigestion
• Dizziness or double vision
• Feelings of weakness or anxiety
• Jaw, neck and arm pain (especially among women)
