About Me
Alexis is a Licensed Professional Counselor trained to diagnose and treat mental health disorders. Alexis attended Southeastern Louisiana University where she earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice in 2014. She then went on to earn a Masters of Education degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nicholls State University in 2017, achieving Summa Cum Laude with both degrees and was recognized with multiple honors. Alexis is a member of the Louisiana Counseling Association and American Counseling Association.
Prior to becoming a counselor, Alexis worked alongside faculty at Nicholls State University exploring educational technology studies. Alexis was also part of multiple undergraduate research projects involving criminal psychology and worked at her local sheriff’s office.
Once becoming a counselor, Alexis spent 8 years working in Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital care providing mental health counseling and crisis stabilization to patients suffering from mental illness, including but not limited to suicidal ideations, homicidal ideations, psychosis, anxiety, depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, dual diagnosis, substance abuse, and personality disorders. Alexis has also remained a resource to her local high schools for outreach for students, teachers, and families.
Alexis plans to continue her focus working with adolescents and young adults to bridge the gap of mental health and development of emotional intelligence in this population. Alexis approaches counseling from the reality/choice perspective to help clients further explore their center for self and ownership of choices in their lives. Alexis approaches the counseling relationship by meeting the client where they are while utilizing empowerment, compassion, and collaboration to help the client accomplish their own set of personal, unique goals.
