Continuity Clinic - Family Health Center
Continuity of care for a diverse patient population is foundational to the family medicine specialty. Family Health Center serves as the continuity clinic for our family medicine residents and is located on Baton Rouge General’s Mid City campus. The Mid City campus provides a variety of services including emergency and acute care, primary care, home health, hospice, palliative care, graduate medical education, imaging, rehab, surgery and more.
Resident training at the Family Health Center begins in PHY-1 with a longitudinal continuity experience that grows throughout residency. As part of the program's 4+1 curriculum structure, residents spend a full, uninterrupted week in the Family Health Center every fifth week, allowing them to focus exclusively on outpatient care, continuity visits, preventative health, and chronic disease management. BY PGY-3, each resident, under the guidance of faculty, manages their own panel of patients, providing ongoing care and building lasting relatioships.
