BATON ROUGE, La. – Baton Rouge General (BRG) today announced that it is expanding its surgical and orthopedic services with the opening of Baton Rouge General Physicians - Orthopedics. The new clinic, led by orthopedic surgeon Austin Broussard, MD, offers a full range of orthopedic services for both adult and adolescent patients.

BRG Orthopedics treats pain and injuries involving upper and lower extremities including shoulders, knees, elbows, and hips. At BRG, patients have access to everything they need for orthopedic issues, from advanced imaging and innovative treatment options to minimally invasive and traditional procedures, as well as rehabilitation services. The clinic is conveniently located in BRG’s Center for Health, which houses the hospital’s outpatient surgery center.

Dr. Broussard’s expertise includes comprehensive nonsurgical and surgical management of shoulder, knee, hip, elbow and sports-related injuries, and he specializes in both arthroscopic and open procedures for these conditions.

A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Dr. Broussard earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis. He then completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at LSU Health New Orleans. Following residency, he moved to Birmingham, Ala., where he completed a fellowship in orthopaedic sports medicine at the prestigious American Sports Medicine Institute with Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center. His training has included caring for athletes at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels, as well as active adults seeking to maintain an active lifestyle.

“I’m excited to return to Louisiana, and I look forward to getting to know my patients and their families,” said Dr. Broussard. “This is a community with an incredible passion for family, sports and staying active. My goal is to provide patients and athletes alike with the highest level of orthopedic and sports medicine care, building lasting relationships not only with them but with coaches, trainers and fellow physicians in our region.”

Dr. Broussard is now accepting new patients in Baton Rouge. BRG Orthopedics is located on the hospital’s Bluebonnet campus in the Center for Health at 9001 Summa Ave., Suite 127.
