BRG Sets Standard in Weight Loss Surgery Outcomes, Earns National Re-Accreditation
BATON ROUGE, La. – Baton Rouge General (BRG) has been awarded a three-year re-accreditation under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
MBSAQIP is a comprehensive, nationwide surgical quality program aimed at ensuring the safe and effective performance of metabolic and bariatric surgery. Surgical outcomes focus on weight loss and the treatment of obesity-related diseases, like diabetes, sleep apnea, and others. Research shows accredited centers experience fewer complications, and better outcomes for patients. BRG has five board-certified bariatric surgeons who perform a few different minimally invasive bariatric surgeries – most commonly gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy.
Weight loss surgery is a powerful option for patients struggling with obesity who haven’t yet found long-term success. At BRG, the entire process is designed around the patient experience, supporting patients at every step, from the first consultation through surgery, recovery, and beyond. The team focuses on long-term success with personalized guidance on nutrition, lifestyle changes, and emotional well-being, along with access to support.
BRG is also a Blue Distinction Center+ for Bariatric Surgery, a designation given by Blue Cross Blue Shield to healthcare facilities that demonstrate high-quality care, treatment expertise and better overall patient results like fewer complications.
As an MBSAQIP-accredited hospital, BRG is also considered an ACS Surgical Quality Partner and holds accreditations for both breast cancer and rectal cancer through ACS’s quality programs. Being a surgical quality partner signifies BRG’s dedication to consistently improving procedures and approaches, while maintaining a critical eye on process at every step.
