Baton Rouge General and Capitol Elementary partner together to offer real-world experience and early exposure to healthcare careers. They continue to build on students’ foundations in math and science to ensure students have the knowledge, resources, and skills necessary to achieve their future career goals in medicine, healthcare, or other STEM-based fields.

Curriculum Support
- A team committed to the progress, success, and the needs of each student
- BRG team facilitates lessons, from “dissecting” math problems to dissecting pigs with 6th graders
Healthcare Exposure
- Hospital tours at Baton Rouge General, including stops in imaging, physical therapy, pharmacy, lab, facilities, emergency services, nursing, and clinical nutrition

Frequently Asked Questions
East Baton Rouge Parish Schools implemented a new model called Focus Choice Schools in the 2022-2023 school year. Focus Choice schools are designed to provide competitive and engaging theme-based programs. They align with a community partner, in this case Baton Rouge General, to help with specialized expertise for each focus.
Any student (on grade level) can apply for admission to the 3-6th grade program. Students who live in the attendance zone of Capitol Elementary will receive priority to enroll in the program. Students will be allowed to apply for the program only during the open application period.
Students are exposed to the medical field through curriculum support. Upon entering 6th grade, students participate in a Healthcare Seminar to learn and develop soft skills.
Baton Rouge General also partners with Capitol High School, where students can continue with the Medical Focus Pathway. At Capitol High, learning certifications can be earned, allowing them to be job-ready by graduation.
