Emergencies
Baton Rouge General Specialty Pharmacy has a plan in place to continue serving your medication needs during emergencies, including fires, chemical spills, severe weather and evacuations. If there is a threat of disaster or severe weather, contact us about any medications you may need to make sure you have enough.
Follow directions from local authorities. We will use every available resource to continue serving you, but there may be times when an emergency prevents us from meeting your needs. In these situations, use your local rescue or medical facility.
If we are unable to deliver your medication because of an emergency, we can transfer your prescription to a local pharmacy of your choice. If we cannot reach you or you cannot reach us, listen to your local news for information and assistance. Please make sure we have an emergency contact number where we can reach you.
In an emergency, remember to:
- Keep a list of your medications, including the prescribing physician, filling pharmacy and dosage.
- Store all medications together in a location that is easy to access if needed.
- Keep the phone number and address for your pharmacies readily available.
Medication Storage & Disposal
Keep your medications together in a secure, accessible location so they are easy to find when needed. During an emergency or disaster, having your medications stored in one location can help you quickly access them. We also recommend keeping a list of your medications, including the prescribing physician, filling pharmacy and dosage, and having the phone number and address for your pharmacies readily available.
The preferred way to dispose of unused prescription and over-the-counter medications is through a drug take-back program. If a take-back option isn't available, follow recommended household disposal steps, including mixing medications with an undesirable substance such as used coffee grounds or cat litter, placing the mixture in a sealed container and removing personal information from empty medication containers before placing them in the trash.
