Holiday Family Fitness

grandpa and kids

The holidays are a busy time filled with friends, family, football and food! It’s going to be next to impossible to stick to your fitness routine. Since the gang’s all here, start your own family fitness traditions and burn a few calories in the midst of all that holiday hoopla.

Start a healthy holiday tradition
Rally some friends or family members and sign up for a holiday walk or run in your community. Not only will it benefit you physically, but you’ll have a new tradition that everyone looks forward to each year.

Good sports
Watching football is fine, but after the game, get the family together for a game of touch football in the back yard ... or soccer ... or basketball. You decide.

Family fun night
Plan an activity everyone can enjoy. Take a hike at a nearby park or trail. Divide the family into teams and visit your local bowling alley. If you happen to be spending the holidays in a snowy location, go sledding or skating together.

Walk while you watch
Instead of curling up on the couch while you watch your favorite holiday movies on TV, walk in place, hop on the treadmill, or do some easy stretching exercises during the commercials. If you’re watching a big game on TV, walk around the block at halftime.
