Doula Services
Baton Rouge General welcomes doulas as part of the care team at our Birth Center. Through our collaboration with Mary's Hands Network we offer increased access to doula services at no cost to you. BRG is the first hospital to work with Mary's Hands to provide a place to train incoming doulas and host a volunteer doula program. Through this program, the training is offered at no cost to the doula, and the doula services at no cost to the mom.
Benefits of a Volunteer Doula
Volunteer doulas provide emotional, physical and informational support to expectant mothers and families. This may include offering comfort measures during labor, providing emotional support, assisting with breastfeeding, and helping with postpartum recovery and newborn care. While doulas are not medical professionals, they work alongside your care team to support your physical and emotional needs in a meaningful way. Research shows that doula support provides benefits that include:
- Improved birth outcomes.
- Increase in breastfeeding rates.
- Decrease in cesarean sections.
- Increased satisfaction with birth.
Request a Volunteer Doula
At Baton Rouge General expectant mothers can request a volunteer doula through their nurse at time of delivery with our doula hotline. Depending on availability you will be paired with a volunteer doula. To guarantee a volunteer doula at your birth you can also speak with your OBGYN about this service. If you know you would like volunteer doula support at your birth please fill out the form linked below and you will be connected with Mary's Hands Network who will help to pair you with a doula.
