Baton Rouge, La. – According to the American Speech Language Hearing Association, 64% of parents were not able to recognize the early warning signs of a speech-language or feeding disorder, and 57% of parents were unaware that without early detection, treatments take longer and cost more.

To help parents identify concerns that may lead to further assessment, the Pediatric Rehabilitation Center at Baton Rouge General invites families to the Bluebonnet campus on Saturday, August 12 from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Activities will include free vision and speech tests, car seat safety demonstrations, safe fittings for shoes and backpacks, and more.

“Developmental screenings are imperative for us to be able to help both kids and parents,” said Megan Dewberry, Pediatric Speech Language Pathologist at BRG. “Often, early intervention can lead to a lifetime of smoother learning and social interaction for the whole family. Our goal is to help as many families in the Baton Rouge community as possible.”

The event will be held at BRG – Bluebonnet in Medical Tower 2. Space is limited, so please register online in advance at brgeneral.org.
