BATON ROUGE, La.Baton Rouge General announced today it has opened two Employee Care Centers to receive donations and supplies for caregivers and healthcare workers impacted by Hurricane Ida. Beginning, September 3, the centers will be open Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

More than 75% of Baton Rouge General team members were impacted by the storm, it may be weeks before many staff members have water and power again. BRG’s team spent several nights at the hospital sheltering in place to maintain caring for patients, returning home to find damage to their homes, lack of utilities and childcare issues with schools closed for the week.

“Our caregivers have been through the most challenging year of their lives with the COVID pandemic,” said Erik Showalter, president of the BRG Foundation. “They have put their jobs first, selflessly caring for their patients throughout four difficult surges in our community. Now, many of them are facing an added layer of stress with the storm. The least we can do is pitch in and support them while they have given so much over the last year.”

Donations and supplies can be dropped off at the Bluebonnet campus Center for Health building, 9001 Summa Avenue (lobby), and at Mid City, Entrance 4, 3401 North Boulevard. Volunteers will be available to assist with unloading. Supplies will be distributed to employees who have suffered damage to their homes and sustained loss of work due to the storm.

Suggested donations are:

  • Water
  • Diapers
  • Formula
  • Toiletries
  • Paper goods
  • Trash bags
  • Snacks
  • Coolers/Ice chests
  • Feminine products
  • Pet food
  • Rubbermaid containers/totes
