BATON ROUGE, La. – To celebrate EMS Week, Baton Rouge General (BRG) will host its annual Jambalaya Cookoff on Saturday, May 21, to honor and thank the area’s first responders.

Teams will vie for the top prize at the Bluebonnet campus, behind the emergency room. Judging is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. First responders are then welcome to stop by any of BRG’s emergency rooms for their free jambalaya -- at Bluebonnet from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and at Mid City and Ascension from 12:30-2 p.m.

“The EMS community has not only supported our team more than ever these past couple of years, but they have worked tirelessly to care for our community,” said Dr. John Jones, emergency medicine physician at BRG. “Our annual jambalaya cookoff is one small way we can say ‘thank you’.”

This year’s judges are Michael Freeman, district chief for the St. George Fire Department, Nathon Williams with Turner Industries, and three members of BRG’s team -- Kristin Stiegel Carr and Will Sand, EMS, and Denny Fife, imaging supervisor.

At the event, first responders will also have a chance to win prizes, including gift cards from Bistro Italia, custom tumblers, a coffee gift basket and more. EMS Week, held annually in May, honors the service and dedication of EMS providers.
