Community Health Needs Assessment
Part of BRG’s participation in the Mayor’s Healthy City Initiative includes collaboration with other organizations to define the community we serve, its significant health needs, and how we work to address those needs.
This complies with the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requiring all tax-exempt hospitals to complete a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) and Implementation Plan every three years. In 2012, federal regulations allowed hospitals to complete this process individually or collaboratively. Baton Rouge’s Mayor’s Healthy City Initiative brought partner hospitals together and was one of the first communities in the country to complete a collaborative CHNA. Since 2012, regulations changed to allow all hospitals to work together to develop a single official document.
Baton Rouge is the first community in the United States to have partner hospitals work together to create a Joint CHNA and Community Implementation Plan.
