Dallas B. Dykes, BA, MDiv, BCCC

Manager of Pastoral Care, CPE Supervisor/Educator

Dallas Dykes has served on the Pastoral Care staff at Baton Rouge General since 2017, initially as a Staff Chaplain. He was named Manager of Pastoral Care in May 2022. Chaplain Dykes was credentialed as a board-certified Clinical Chaplain/Pastoral Counselor and started the CPE Supervisor-In-Training Program with CPSP in 2019 and was granted reciprocity as a board-certified Clinical Chaplain and CPE Supervisory Candidate with CPEI in 2020. He was affirmed as a CPE Supervisor/Educator with CPEI in December 2022. Chaplain Dykes’ ministry experience includes tenures as a hospice chaplain/bereavement counselor and a decade serving in pastoral roles on church staffs. He completed four units of CPSP Clinical Pastoral Education at Baton Rouge General and has a Bachelors in English from Louisiana State University and a Master of Divinity with Specialization in Christian Education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Chaplain Dykes is endorsed by the North American Mission Board.

Joseph E. Mellein, BA, MTh, BCCC

Staff Chaplain, CPE Supervisory Candidate

Joseph Mellein began his BRG tenure as a Staff Chaplain and CPE Supervisory Candidate in May 2022, following his completion of six Residency units of CPEI Clinical Pastoral Education at Baton Rouge General. He was credentialed as a board-certified Clinical Chaplain with CPEI in September 2022. Chaplain Mellein spent his formative years in southern California, which offered him an awareness of and appreciation for ethnic, cultural, and religious diversity. His experience also includes service as a hospice chaplain and on-call hospital chaplain and three years of mission and teaching ministry in northern India. Chaplain Mellein is endorsed by the Archangel Gabriel Antiochian Orthodox Church.

Pat H. Davis, BA, MRE, BCCC

Director of Pastoral Care, CPE Supervisor

A veteran of hospital chaplaincy since 1983 and a member of the Pastoral Care staff at Baton Rouge General for over 30 years, Pat Davis is certified by CPEI as a Training Supervisor and by CPSP as a Diplomate of Pastoral Supervision. As Director of Pastoral Care, his leadership guided the establishment of BRG’s Clinical Pastoral Education Program in 2012. He joined BRG’s Pastoral Care department in 1991 after serving as the first Protestant Staff Chaplain at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. In addition to holding a Bachelors in Business Management Studies from the University of South Alabama and a Master of Religious Education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Chaplain Davis completed seven units of residency training in ACPE Clinical Pastoral Education at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans. Chaplain Davis is endorsed by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.
