Vincent Shaw

Vincent Shaw, Jr., MD, CAQSM, FAAFP

Program Director

Family and Sports Medicine Physician

Dr. Vincent Shaw, A native of Opelousas, received his Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from Southern University A&M College and his Medical Degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his Family Medicine Residency training at the Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program, and also completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He has been a faculty member for the Family Medicine Residency Program for 10 years and currently serves as the Program Director for Baton Rouge General’s Family Medicine Residency and Sports Medicine Fellowship Programs. Board Certified in Family Medicine with a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine, Dr. Shaw also serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve and is a team physician for Southern University and LSU.


Matthew-BumgardnerMatthew Bumgardner, MD, CAQSM

Family & Sports Medicine Physician

Dr. Matthew Bumgardner earned his undergraduate degree from Centenary College of Louisiana and his medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. He completed his residency training at Baton Rouge General’s Family Medicine Program, where he served as chief resident, as well as a fellowship in Baton Rouge General’s Sports Medicine Program. He is also a team physician for Louisiana State University and a member of the American Medical Association, American Medical Society of Sports Medicine, American Academy of Family Physicians, and Louisiana Association of Family Physicians.


Stephen Etheredge

Stephen Etheredge, MD, CAQSM

Family and Sports Medicine Physician

Dr. Stephen Etheredge is a board certified family physician with a specialty certification in sports medicine. Dr. Etheredge is on the faculty of the Baton Rouge General Sports Medicine Fellowship and works closely with the fellows throughout the year. He received his BS in biology along with a minor in chemistry at Florida State University and his medical degree from St. Matthew’s University of Medicine. He completed his residency at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program and also completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Baton Rouge General Sports Medicine Fellowship Program. Dr. Etheredge is a team physician for Louisiana State University and Parkview Baptist High School.
